Day 1:
Arrive St. Petersburg, Pulkovo-2 International Airport. Transfer by private car to hotel of your choice. Check-in and free afternoon .... B
Day 2-5: St. Petersburg - During the sightseeing tour of this majestic creation of Peter the Great, you will see such world famous sights as Nevsky Prospect, the main shopping street, Kazan Cathedral, Count Stroganoff's Palace, The Admiralty, the Neva River, the Smolny, Winter Palace, The Hermitage Museum, the historical Palace Square, the Aurora Battle Ship, the Fortress of Peter-and-Paul, St. Isaac's Cathedral, one of the largest cathedrals in the world with its magnificent carved altar, colored mosaics, precious and semi-precious stone decorations and golden dome, the Mariinsky Theatre, hundreds of statues and monuments and, naturally, many lovely bridges and canals for which St. Petersburg is called the "Venice of the North". Also, during your stay in St. Petersburg, you will have time for souvenir shopping. One morning you will depart to Petergoff (Petrodvorets), the Summer Palace of Peter the Great built amidst an unbelievable garden with golden and marble statues, fountains and cascades. You will visit the incredible Baroque style Winter Palace the former residence of Russian czars, and, the adjoining Hermitage Museum which houses one of the world's most splendid art collection with more than three million exhibits. The program also includes trip to towns of Pushkin and Pavlovsk, where you will visit the beautiful Russian Baroque style Summer Residencies of Romanov Dynasty - Palaces of Catherine the Great and her son Paul. Of course you will visit Russian Museum, the largest depository of Russian icons, works of early Russian applied art and paintings. You will tour the Peter-and-Paul Fortress, built by Peter the Great in 1703 to protect the re-conquered lands along the Neva from possible attacks from the Swedish army and navy. However, the Swedes were defeated even before the fortress was completed, so from 1921 on the fortress housed part of the city's garrison and rather notoriously served as a high security political jail. Among the first inmates was Peter's own rebellious son Alexei. Later, the list of famous residents included Dostoyevsky, Gorky, Trotsky and Lenin's older brother Alexander. After Gala dinner on the last day of your stay in St. Petersburg, you will be transferred to the railway station from where you will take the legendary overnight express train, the "Red Arrow" to Moscow ...... Day 6-7: Moscow - Morning arrival, private transfer and check-in to the hotel of your choice. After breakfast be ready to start your program in this capital city of nine million people. During your stay in Moscow, you will enjoy some of the most exciting tours, visits and excursions. Your sightseeing tour of the city will include a walk through the famous Red Square, a stop to admire the magnificent onion domes St. Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Tomb, crowded GUM department store, the Olympic Stadium, site of the 1980 Olympic games, the Bolshoi Theater, the Kremlin, Moscow University, a panoramic view of the entire city from the Sparrow Hills and many, many other unforgettable sites. Among other visits there will be a tour inside the grounds of The Kremlin, today the governmental center of Russia, but formerly a fortress which spans over 800 years of history and encircles many historic buildings, The Cathedral of the Assumption (1475-1479) considered to be the main cathedral in Russia and the crowning place of the Russian princes, czars and later the emperor. The Archangel Cathedral (1505-1508): the burial vaults of the Moscow princes and Russian czars prior to 1732. You will visit the Armory Museum of Kremlin, depositor}' of the treasures of the Russian czars. You will also visit the Arbat Street district where you can browse or shop for traditional Russian gift items and souvenirs such as balalaikas, wooden Matriyoshka dolls, fur hats and coats, records and gift books, jewelry, lacquer boxes and even vodka and caviar.
